The US assists Vietnam in developing rooftop solar power

 - On December 14, in Hanoi, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a MOU and Agreement on cooperation in technical assistance to promote developing rooftop solar power in Vietnam.

MOU and Agreement Ceremony on cooperation in technical assistance to promote developing rooftop solar power in Vietnam.

According to the content of the agreement, USAID and the US partners will help EVN analyzing and assessing the impact of rooftop solar power development, in the short term of the projects in Da Nang city on Power Companies and EVN; enhance capacity building and assess technical impacts of the rooftop solar power systems on the distribution network, and at the same time, build the communication programs on the rooftop solar power for EVN, focusing on the EVNSOLAR platform in the short term.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, EVN Deputy General Director Vo Quang Lam informed that in the period of 2019 - 2020, the renewable energy development "broke out" in Vietnam. With the Government's policy on encouraging renewable energy, up to now about 9,700 MW of solar power projects and 600 MW of wind power projects have been put into operation. In particular, there have been more than 75,000 rooftop solar power projects, with a total installed capacity of over 3,300MWp in operation.

It is expected that by the end of 2020, renewable energy should account for 17% of the installed capacity of the national power system. However, the current solar incentive policy will end validity in December 2020, while new policies have not been issued.

Therefore, EVN Deputy General Director hoped that the above cooperation agreement will help EVN and other units make independent and advanced assessment and analysis, and help EVN have a multidimensional view on the real development situation of the rooftop solar power in Vietnam.

On this occasion, EVN leaders expressed their thanks to USAID for supporting EVN in recent time, and at the same time also expressed their wish to continuously receive comprehensive cooperation and support from USAID in the coming time, for EVN to improve its capacity and fulfill the task of ensuring electricity supply for the socio-economic development of the country.
