Ho Chi Minh City proposes a specific mechanism to develop the rooftop SPPs

 - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade (HCMC DOIT) has just proposed a specific mechanism to develop on-site power generation, focusing on rooftop solar energy projects to supply a huge load amount in the City.

According to the HCMC DOIT, for the people and enterprises working in the HCM City, this solution helps not only reduce monthly electricity costs due to electricity, generating and use directly at peak hours, which reduces the high-level electricity price but also can increase the income, effective heat protection for the projects, especially in rural and suburban areas.

The solar energy system development is also the social and environmental significance for promoting clean, green energy projects, reducing the greenhouse effect, reducing CO2 emissions, and reducing heat radiation for buildings. In addition, it is to ensure energy security, and sustainable development of the City and is suitable with the Government's policy on developing clean and renewable energy projects.

The HCNC DOIT proposed the Government allow the City to apply the mechanism of purchasing power agreement (PPA) by the FIT, and to continue implementing for the rooftop projects the Decisions No 11/2017/QĐ-TTg and No. 13/2020/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister)and allow the Ho Chi Minh City to use the roofs of the administrative and public career offices in City for installing the rooftop solar power projects to self-use and sell the redundant electricity (if any) to the power system.

According to the HCMC DOIT, if this solution is approved by the Government, the city's power grid system ensures to release of the full capacity of rooftop solar power projects installed in the area, without investment in the additional transmission grids.
