Announced the report “Offshore Wind Supply Chain for Fast-Rising Scenario of Vietnam”

 - In Hanoi, the Norwegian Embassy announced and presented the report “Offshore Wind Supply Chain for Fast-Rising Scenario of Vietnam”.

1.Vietnam has significant potential to localize key components of offshore wind power projects, especially the Report assessed Vietnam's offshore wind power development potential of Vietnam and proposed steps to build a complete and efficient supply chain.

According to the Report that with high wind speeds, favorable seabed conditions, and existing onshore and near shore wind power infrastructure, Vietnam is considered a promising market.

The Report also points out positive signals from international markets starting to place orders for offshore wind power. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long highly appreciated the Report, considered it an important information for the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in planning offshore wind power development.

At the same time, it emphasizes Vietnam's potential in leveraging experience from the oil and gas industry to develop domestic supply chains, realizing international commitments, including Vietnam's commitment to zero net emissions at COP26 and the Power Development Planning VIII and the Plan to realize Power Development Planning VIII and also emphasize experience from Oil and Gas for developing domestic supply chain.

The main results of the Report point out some noteworthy points such as:

The manufacture of foundations, assembly of components in the power structure offshore wind from Vietnam. Assembling casings and supplying wind towers.

2. The need to upgrade the existing seaport system in both the North and the South to meet the logistics needs of the offshore wind industry.

3. Domestic suppliers, especially those in the oil and gas industry, have shown strong interest and plans to participate in the offshore wind market.

4. The offshore wind industry can create tens of thousands of new jobs, especially in the Southern region.

The Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi handed over the report “Offshore wind power supply chain for Vietnam’s rapid development scenario” to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Agreeing with the content of the report, representatives of the parties attending the ceremony commented and shared that the Report analyzed important aspects, including the potential for localization of key components of offshore wind projects, assessment of port infrastructure, readiness of domestic suppliers, and job creation potential.

The report makes a number of strategic recommendations, including:

- Improving the policy and institutional framework for offshore wind.

- Strategic investment in port infrastructure.

- Upgrading the production scale of suppliers.

- Building a clear project portfolio.

- Partnering with universities to develop skills.

- Strengthening international cooperation.

- Establishing two inter-regional renewable energy centers

in the North and South, acting as the centers for production, research and green industrial parks.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Norwegian Ambassador said: The report provided an overview of the potential and challenges of Vietnam's offshore wind power industry, and proposes important solutions and recommendations to develop the domestic supply chain, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam's energy industry.

At the end of the ceremony, both sides recognized that the Report had provided practical and professional recommendations from Norway - a country with experience in offshore wind power development, thereby Vietnam can effectively exploit the potential of offshore wind power, contributing to ensuring national energy security, creating many new jobs and promoting sustainable economic growth./.
