Thang briefed the diplomat on the impact of drought and saline intrusion in southern localities, especially in the Mekong Delta, where tens of millions of lives are being affected, he said.
He also urged the US to soon recognise Vietnam as a market economy, while calling for more US investment in Vietnam.
Ambassador Osius expressed his belief that the upcoming visit to Vietnam made by President Barack Obama will open up more opportunities to develop the two countries’ relations, especially considering that both countries are participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
Speaking of the municipal authorities’ support of the Fulbright University project, the diplomat noted that it was a significant investment in the youth and the future.
