The Danish Embassy has just had the 3rd meeting with Hai Phong City People’s Committee (CPC) on implementing an offshore wind power project with a total capacity of 3,900MW and a total investment of about 13.6 billion USD.

In Vung Tau city has been held the signing ceremony on comprehensive cooperation between the Singapore Enterprize Energy & RE Global Solution and the associate of PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVC) and Vietsovpetro (VSP) to develop an offshore wind power project in Vietnam. The project is located in 30 km from Binh Thuan sea coast and has a capacity of 1200 MW, total investment level of US$ 3.5 billion. The investment of the project will be diverged in two phases as 600 MW in 2018 - 2021 and 600 MW in 2021 – 2023.

On December 07, 2018, in Hanoi, Enter-prize Energy Pte. Ltd (EE)Investor in cooperation with Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) held a workshop on “Ke Ga off –shore wind power farm – a new breakthrough for economy of Vietnam”.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), on behalf of New Market Fund I, Asiapetro, Novasia Energy and Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee (PPC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on developing La Gan offshore wind power project with a total capacity of up to 3.5 GW. The signing ceremony took place at the Vietnam 2020 High-Level Forum on July 22, 2020, in Hanoi.

On July 15, 2021, in Hanoi, La Gan Wind Power Project Development Joint Stock Company - the developer of the 3.5 GW La Gan offshore wind power project (under the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Asiapetro and Novasia) has signed a contract with the Vietnam - Russia joint venture (Vietsovpetro) of geotechnical survey for La Gan offshore wind power project. The signing ceremony was conducted online under the witness of the Danish Ambassador to Vietnam - Kim H. Christensen.

La Gan Wind Power Project Development Joint Stock Company - the developer of La Gan offshore wind farm project owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Asiapetro and Novasia, signed with the Northern Regional Center for Marine Environmental and Natural Resources Planning and Investigation (CPIM) two contracts as the contract for geophysical survey and the contract for geological research of 3.5 GW La Gan offshore wind power project. The signing ceremony was conducted online to ensure safety in the recent development of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Information from Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, on December 29, 2020, the provincial People's Committee reported to the Prime Minister on the addition of the Binh Dinh offshore wind power plant to the National Power Development Plan in the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision up to 2045 (PDP VIII) as a basis for project investment promotion in accordance with the law.

On the morning of August 25, BP Group (United Kingdom) and SOVICO Group Joint Stock Company (Vietnam) had a meeting with Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee (PPC).

In the report to the National Steering Committee for Electricity Development, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) proposed a mechanism to assign state corporations for the pilot investment in offshore wind power projects (There is reason to invest in the areas related to the national security, new technology and complex construction). The Gemini consortium has signed all construction, operations and financing contracts yesterday with a total construction budget of nearly EUR 3 billion. With more than 20 parties involved 70 percent of this budget will be provided on the basis of project financing – making Gemini the largest-ever project financed offshore wind farm. For the Gemini project Siemens will deliver 150 wind turbines with a capacity of 4 megawatts (MW) and a rotor diameter of 130 meters each.

Vietnam, with a coastline of 3260 km, is considered a country with huge offshore wind potential. In this paper, the author will preliminarily evaluate the net capacity factor of a 600 MW offshore wind farm if it is developed in offshore water zones inVietnam, using wind turbines with a rated power of 10 MW (typical for the development trend of current wind power technology). As well as evaluate the change in capacity factor of this wind farm during the year. Does it bring any benefits to the power system in Vietnam or not?

Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of the Member Council of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) just had a working meeting with Mr. Tan See Leng - Minister of Manpower Ministry and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Singapore, and the delegates of the Singapore Mission to Hanoi for exchanging views on cooperation in the energy field. At the meeting, the two sides expected that Vietnam and Singapore's power grids may be connected by 2035 for Singapore to buy offshore power electricity from Vietnam.

Offshore wind power - a new generation of green energy – has a history of development over the past 30 years in Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, and the United States. After the Cop 26 Summit Conference in 2020 (in the UK), the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA) has been formed. The offshore wind power development is rapidly increasing in the world, currently standing at 57 GW and impossibly reaching 500 GW by 2040 and 1,000 GW by 2050. Vietnam has an economic and technical potential for offshore wind power which is over 600 GW and attracts many investors. To develop sustainably of the offshore wind power industry, it is essential to executive on research and establish a legal framework to promote offshore wind power development (laws, national offshore wind power strategies, and related policy documents, etc).

On September 9, 2021, within the framework of the official working visit to Belgium, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, T&T Group and Orsted - the world's leading sustainable energy Group officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic cooperation in the offshore wind power in Vietnam.
