BP Group and SOVICO proposed to invest in offshore wind power project in Quang Ninh

At the meeting, BP Group and SOVICO Group proposed to invest in an offshore wind power project in Quang Ninh province.
The project will be developed in three phases: Phase 1, from 2027 to 2030 with a capacity of 500 MW; phases 2 and 3 with a total capacity of 2,500 MW from 2030 to 2035.
With their experience and ability, BP Group and SOVICO Group expect through the offshore wind power projects, will contribute to meet electricity demand, ensure the national energy security and realize the goal of developing green energy, renewable energy, promoting socio-economic development, industrialization - modernization of Vietnam in general and Quang Ninh in particular.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Van - Chairman of Quang Ninh PPC highly appreciated the idea proposed by BP Group and SOVICO Group Joint Stock Company for investment in offshore wind power project in Quang Ninh .
Emphasizing the potential and advantage of Quang Ninh with the largest coal reserve in the country, that is the input fuel for thermal power plants, the Chairman of Quang Ninh PPC said that, every year, Quang Ninh generates about 38 billion kWh equal to 10% of total capacity to the national power system, making Quang Ninh one of the energy centers in Vietnam.
However, with the goal of green growth, changing the development mode from "brown" to "green" of the province, and at the same time implementing the national strategy on developing renewable energy, clean energy, moving towards Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050, Quang Ninh is mobilizing resources, calling for and attracting investment in the renewable energy, clean energy, thereby reducing dependence on the fossil energy resources, mitigating climate change, protecting environment and developing the socio-economic sustainability.
Besides the LNG power project with a capacity of 1,500 MW invested in Cam Pha City, there are many investors to come Quang Ninh for researching investment in developing renewable energy, among tha offshore wind power projects because of that, Quang Ninh has 250 km of the sea route and the best power connection infrastructure and transmission grid over the country.
The Chairman of Quang Ninh PPC assigned the departments and agencies of Quang Ninh province to accompany with the investors to promote ideas into specific proposals and projects related to offshore wind power plants in the coming time.
