The XIII Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology

In the Conference participated more than 40 domestic and foreign organizations with more than 400 scientists, specialists, experts, professors, post-graduates and students…from the domestic and oversea institutes, universities, management agencies and organizations relevant with atomic energy science and technology.

The Vietnam Nuclear Science and Technology Conference is an important event held once in every two years in activities for research, development and application of atomic energy in Vietnam. The conference is a place for scientists and leading experts at home and abroad to meet and exchange research results and new applications in the atomic science and technology. The conference is still also an opportunity for young researchers in the country to exchange and improve more the professional knowledge and other practical skills.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, Dr. Pham Cong Tac, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology said: The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is pleased to see a strong growth in size of organization size, number of delegates, especially the content and quality of scientific reports, in period from the XII held successfully in 2017 to the XIII Conference.

"We believe that the results of the Conference will contribute to orienting, building and implementing  research and development programs, as well as  strengthening and expanding international cooperation in atomic energy industry in Vietnam", Dr. Pham Cong Tac emphasized.

Dr. Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh PPC

Representative of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee (PPC), Dr. Vu Thi Thu Thuy - Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh PPC shared: “Currently, Quang Ninh province has: 75 radiation facilities, with 231 devices for X-ray emission (207b X-ray set for medical diagnosis, 24 X-ray generators for industrial use); 54 radioactive sources; 56 medical bases use 207 X-ray devices, 03 accelerators, 02 open radioactive sources, 04 tight radioactive sources, 17 radiation bases and 06 industrial test measuring devices ”.

Ms. Thuy said “at the present, many scientific and technological agencies, organizations and enterprises in Quang Ninh are implementing activities to research and apply atomic energy, using radioactive sources and radiation equipment, such as: Quang Ninh General Hospital, Bai Chay Medical Tumor Center, Vietnam - Sweden Hospital, Mong Duong Thermal Power Company and the companies under Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group in Quang Ninh province”

In the three days of the conference, there 242 reports were presented, including 165 oral presentations at the professional subcommittees and 77 reports in posters. There were 6 following subcommittees implementing the special subjects:

1. Sub-committee A: Reactor, nuclear power and human resource training.

2. Subcommittee B: Nuclear physics, nuclear data, accelerators and nuclear analysis.

3.  Subcommittee C: Radiation measurement, radiation safety and environmental surveying.

4. Sub-committee D1-D2: Application of nuclear technology in health service, industry and other fields.

5. Subcommittee D3-D4: Application of nuclear technology in agriculture and application of radiation technology.

6. Subcommittee E: Radioactive chemistry, radiation chemistry, nuclear chemistry, fuel cycle, nuclear material technology, radioactive waste management.

                Overview of the Conference

XIII Vietnam Nuclear Science and Technology Conference is an important scientific event not only for the Vietnamese atomic energy community but also has a great significance for promoting scientific research and development for applying atomic energy of the country in the context of Vietnam to actively promote science and technology apply nuclear energy for the peaceful purposes.
