Being one of the pioneers of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN)’s energy efficiency operations, over the past years, EVN NPC has adopted many energy efficiency programs with its targets aimed at businesses, commercial buildings and especially households. In 2013 alone, the EVN NPC saved 643.91 million kWh, accounting for 1.92 of the commercial electricity and fulfilling 128.53 percent of the plan assigned by EVN. Especially, the “Solar water heater” program obtained many encouraging results as the corporation installed 11,361 solar heaters, fulfilling 142 percent of the assigned plan.
In addition, propaganda programs on energy efficiency were also promoted. In five years (2009-2013), EVN NPC propagandized power saving programs for 28,790 times on the radio, 2,377 times on the press, 5,689 times on TV, distributed more than 8.5 million fliers, 645 thousand energy efficiency handbooks, 220 thousand books on the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation and consulted 41,502 customers to implement power saving programs.
Also in this year’s power saving program, representatives from provincial people's committees, EVN NPC and 27 member companies of EVN NPC and Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flasks Joint-Stock Company signed a power saving agreement for the benefits of the community. At the same time, the corporation also gave energy-saving lights to 300 difficult households who had been utilizing incandescent lamps in Thanh Hoa Province.
Vietnam participated in the Earth Hour campaign for the first time in 2009. Since then, EVN and its member companies have accompanied the event. This year, EVN NPC chose Thanh Hoa City to organize activities in response to the 2014 Earth Hour campaign and launch energy-saving movements with various support, propaganda and performance activities.
Accordingly, in the afternoon of March 26, starting from Lam Son – Thanh Hoa Square, more than 500 youths of Thanh Hoa City’s Trade Union, staff of EVN NPC and Thanh Hoa Power Company cycled around the city’s main streets to address power saving messages to respond to the campaign.
At the main program held in the evening of March 26, Deputy Director of EVN NPC Nguyen Thanh Le said that with the theme “EVN NPC joins hands with customers for a green future”, he believed that with a simple action through switching off lights and electrical devices not in use, each of us has made many contributions to power saving and energy saving activities in general. This will be a very meaningful deed only for us but also for our families and the whole society.
Officially launched since 2007, until now the annual Earth Hour campaign that takes place from 20h30 to 21h30 local time on the last Saturday of March has attracted the attention and participation of billions of people from 7,000 cities, towns and 154 countries and territories, including Vietnam./.
