WB commits to continue supporting EVN in power infrastructure development

Attending the meeting were Ambassadors of Australia, Finland, Laos; Representatives of Embasies from United State, Russia, France, Italia, Thạland…; Representatives of WB, German government-owned development bank (KfW), Development Association of France (AFD) in Vietnam; as well as Representatives of Vietnamese State Bank and commercial Banks.

At the meeting, the EVN General Director Dang Hoang An said: In 2017 EVN fulfiled assigned mission and achieved much success in areas as: i) to the end of 2017, the total capacity of the whole power system has reached more than 45,000 MW with a power generation of 174.05 billion kWh in 2017, increasing 8.92% in comparison with generation in 2016; ii) EVN is serving 25,6 million customers in the whole country; iii) in 2017 EVN invested in electricity supply for 11/12 island districts; iv) to the end of 2017, EVN has carried out electrification for 99,98% communes and 98.83% rural households in the whole country, especially, EVN has offerd 100% online service electricity.

According to the Doing Business announced on October 31, 2017 of WB, Vietnan ranks 64Th position among 190 countries/economies, increasing 32 steps against the rank in 2016, contributing to increase of overall assess indicator on business environment of Vietnam for 14 steps agenst the rank in 2016.
One of the important hallmarks of EVN in 2017 was to promote cooperation with domestic and foreign parterners. EVN maintained reliable relation with the international financial institutions (WB, ADB, AFD, JICA, KfW…) to arrange foreign capitals for the power projects. EVN also closely cooperated with the large power corporations in the world as EDF (France), TEPCO (Japan), KEPCO (S.Korea), ENEL (Italia)… to implement bilateral cooperation programs.
“In 2018, EVN would like to continue receiving the enthusiastic and effective cooperation and support from the parterners for EVN to carry out well the task of guaranteing electricity supply to the country” Mr. Dang Hoang An emphasized.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Achim Fock – Portfolio & Opetation Manager, World Bank Vietnam affirmed: EVN has used very effectively ODA funds to implement the programs on rural electrification, upgrading and extending essential power transmission grids and distribution networks, developing power projects… This is the result of the leadership, dedication and high technical competence of the EVN leaders and staff.
Mr. Achim Fock congratulated EVN for its success in 2017 and emphasized that in coming years WB and development parterners will continue to support EVN to develop competitive electricity market; upgrade the infrastructure for promoting power system reliability; develop renewable energy, use energy effectively and economically…with an aim to guarantee sustaiable development of power sector of Vietnam.
