The ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Christopher Scholl, Deputy Consul General of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Michaela Baur, Country Director of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Vietnam; along with around 100 guests from government agencies, development organizations, research institutes, universities, and domestic and international enterprises.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Ms. Michaela Baur, Country Director of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Vietnam, emphasized: “What truly sets the Vietnam Green Hydrogen Center apart is that it is not merely a network, but a physical space for collaboration and innovation - where knowledge and partnerships intersect to drive transformation.”

Sharing the vision for the Center, Mr. Thomas Aulig, Vice President of the Vietnamese-German University, noted that the Center will serve as a bridge between academia, industry, and policy, fostering education, research, and innovation in renewable energy and hydrogen technologies.

According to Mr. Henri Wasnick, Director of the H2Uppp Project in Vietnam (GIZ): “We are witnessing strong momentum from the private sector, reflected in the increasing participation of local companies across the hydrogen value chain, along with growing interest from international technology providers. The presence of both German and Vietnamese companies in this field demonstrates our shared commitment to advancing the energy transition in Vietnam.”

Vietnam Green Hydrogen Center – A Platform for Collaboration and Innovation

The Center was established under the International Hydrogen Ramp-Up Program (H2Uppp), implemented by the GIZ Energy Support Program in Vietnam and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).

The Center aims to support the development of a green hydrogen economy in Vietnam through three key pillars:

Connecting businesses to foster investment cooperation and technology transfer.

Training and capacity building for experts, policymakers, and technicians.

Showcasing and demonstrating advanced hydrogen technologies.

The Center is coordinated by GIZ, the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam (AHK Vietnam), and the Vietnamese-German University, in collaboration with a consortium of Vietnamese and international partners, including Indefol GmbH, ENERTRAG, NEUMAN & ESSER Group, Messer Vietnam, Siemens Vietnam, Bosch Vietnam, TÜV SÜD Vietnam, and IB Consulting.

The establishment of the Vietnam Green Hydrogen Center marks the beginning of a long-term cooperation to strengthen the national hydrogen ecosystem — from policy dialogue and market development to training, innovation, and international collaboration. The Center is expected to make a significant contribution to Vietnam’s energy transition journey, towards a sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous energy future./.
