The Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Tran Hong Ha and Mr. Graham Stuart - Secretary of State in charge of Energy Security and Carbon Neutrality (Net Zero) of the United Kingdom have agreed to promote a number of specific renewable energy projects with the participation of leading enterprises of the two countries, as a basis for exchanging and sharing experiences of the two sides in a substantive and effective way.

The Vietnam Energy Review would like to update the status for accepting documents, negotiating and approving results of electricity prices, signing power purchase agreement (PPA), checking and taking over the transitional renewable energy (RE) projects on the morning of July 26, 2023 by the data of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) for reader’s reference.

After the conference between the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the investors of the transitional renewable energy (RE) projects, in May 24 and 25, 2023, MOIT issued 2 documents for guiding to remove deadlock in transitional wind and solar power projects.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to accelerate the process of issuing electricity licenses for wind and solar power projects that have been completed but have not yet been put into operation.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) to urgently modify and supplement Circular No. 15/2022/TT-BCT dated October 3, 2022, and Decision No. 21/QD-BCT dated January 7, 2023, on the framework of electricity generation prices for the transitional solar and wind power plants.

After successfully implementing a 200 million USD credit package signed in June 2019, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) have just signed a contract for financing 300 million USD to support renewable energy (RE) projects in Vietnam.

The mission of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) had a business trip to the United Kingdom (UK) to collect information, exchange, and learn experiences in operating the power system with many grid-connected renewable energy projects, especially offshore wind power projects. The mission was headed by EVN Deputy General Director Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh (the mission was made based on a partial sponsorship of the British Embassy in Vietnam).

On March 20, 2023, in Hanoi, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) held a conference to discuss with investors of transitional renewable energy projects.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) – Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) clears the petitions of 36 investors of the transitional solar and wind power projects submitted to the Prime Minister (PM). In order to negotiate and agree on the electricity prices of a part of the power project/the whole power project without electricity prices, the Power Trading Company (EVNEPTC) has just sent a written document to request the solar and wind power investors, to check the legal documents of the projects complying with the legal regulations on investment and construction or not. Especially, the evaluating documents of the power system operation units about the absorption ability of the national power system, as well as the ability to release the capacity of the power grid related to the project.

In Hanoi, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) just had a meeting with Mr. Peck Khamkanist - CEO of Impact Electrons Siam (founder of Monsoon - Laos wind power project).

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade (HCMC DOIT) has just proposed a specific mechanism to develop on-site power generation, focusing on rooftop solar energy projects to supply a huge load amount in the City.
