Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel, expressed his honor at seeing two major state-owned economic groups join forces with the Government to contribute to safeguarding economic security, energy security and national defense. With its strong capabilities in telecommunications infrastructure, 4G/5G networks, information security and digital ecosystems serving the Government, the National Assembly and tens of millions of people, Viettel is committed to comprehensive cooperation with TKV.

Beyond digital transformation, Viettel’s Chairman and CEO highlighted several potential areas for strategic cooperation, including joint research, development and production of new materials and equipment for the power sector, high-tech industries and the defense industry. The two sides could also leverage Viettel’s experience and established presence in international markets, particularly in Africa and Latin America, to work with TKV to explore and expand mineral investments on a global scale.

Highly appreciating Viettel’s technological capabilities, Mr. Ngo Hoang Ngan, Secretary of the TKV Party Committee and Chairman of the Members’ Council of TKV, said the signing of the Cooperation Agreement came at the right time and carried strategic significance, particularly as it coincided with Vietnam’s National Innovation Day on October 1. The agreement represents a concrete step toward realizing the strategic direction of developing TKV into a strong economic group with a focus on the energy industry and new materials.

TKV currently produces approximately 40 million tonnes of coal annually, with a network of thermal power plants, mineral processing and chemical facilities across 22 provinces and cities, and a workforce of nearly 92,000. As mining operations move increasingly deeper underground and farther afield, while labor recruitment becomes more challenging, TKV needs to accelerate the application of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

Mr. Ngo Hoang Ngan called on Viettel to coordinate with and support TKV in reviewing and integrating the data systems of its subsidiaries into a centralized management and operations platform, thereby improving management efficiency.

In particular, TKV is ready to provide real-world testing environments for Viettel to pilot automation and robotic solutions in mining and underground tunneling operations. The two sides may also expand cooperation in supplying TKV’s key mineral products, such as 99%-pure copper for the manufacture of cables and telecommunications equipment; strengthen cooperation in heavy engineering and machinery; and explore joint investment in mineral projects in overseas markets.

At the signing ceremony, leaders of the two groups highlighted their respective strengths and potential and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation as a catalyst for sustainable development. TKV is one of Vietnam’s key state-owned economic groups and plays a leading role in ensuring national energy security through its core businesses in coal mining, minerals, power generation and chemicals. Viettel, meanwhile, is Vietnam’s leading technology and telecommunications enterprise and a pioneer in building a digital society.

To maximize the complementary strengths of the two sides, Mr. Tran Hai Binh, Deputy CEO of TKV, and Mr. Cao Anh Son, Deputy CEO of Viettel, represented the two groups in signing the Strategic Cooperation Agreement for 2026–2030 in the presence of leaders from both groups.

Before the signing ceremony, the TKV delegation visited the Viettel Digital Museum, where they learned about Viettel’s advanced solutions and technologies currently under research and development./.
