Hailing the plant as one of the leading in Vietnam, PM Phuc said that the inauguration of the project is the outcome of the coordination between the Vietnam Electricity (EVN), a Japanese contractor and supervision and construction units from Germany, the US and Vietnam.

åIn the time to come, the EVN should focus all resources on ensuring enough electricity for socio-economic development and people’s daily life, he stressed, asking the investor to apply advanced technology to ensure safe operation, and intensify supervision over the supply of coal and the treatment of cinders.

Work on the plant, located in My Loc commune, Thai Thuy district, began in February 2015. It costs a total of over 26.5 trillion VND (1.27 billion USD), of which 85 percent comes from the official development assistance (ODA) of the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the rest is funded by the EVN.

EVN Chairman Duong Quang Thanh said that the plant’s two generator complexes with a combined capacity of 600 MW have been put into commercial operation since April 2018. To date, the plant has generated more than 3 billion kWh of electricity. The plant is expected to contribute 3.6-3.9 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid each year.
