There will be 'one-price tariff' for electricity customers to choose

 - Sharing with the press on July 8, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong informed: Besides the electricity tariff with 5 price ladders instead of the current tariff with 6 ladders, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) will additionally submit an ‘one-price tariff’ for the electricity customers to choose.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong, the current electricity tariff with 6 ladders is having a great impact on electricity consumption, especially in the recent hot weather period. Many customers reflect that their payment for electricity bills increased faster than the number of kWh.

Therefore, in coming week, MOIT will hold a review meeting and make a final report for public comments. In the final report, MOIT will propose an electricity tariff with 5 price ladders instead of the current tariff with 6 price ladders and an electricity tariff one price that can not lower than the current average electricity price of VND 1,864.44/kWh.

Previously, MOIT already consulted the ministries, agencies and people to complete the draft regulation on the electricity retail tariff structure replacing Decision No. 28/2014/QD -TTg to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.

The electricity tariff with 5 price ladders is as follows: the ladder 1 with 0-100 kWh keeps the current price;  ladder 2 with 101-200 kWh; ladder 3 with 201-400 kWh; ladder 4 with 401-700 kWh and ladder 5 with 701 kWh up.

According to statistics, the number of customers using less than 400 kWh per month occupies a rate of 70-80% of a total number of the customers, so current policy on electricity tariff is paying attention to these customers with a low income.

According to MOIT calculations, the turnover of Electricity of Vietnam will reduce because of a number of customers can move to one price tariff.

However, in overall, despite any tariff option, the obtained electricity price calculated on the total turnover and total commercial electricity must be equal to the average electricity price of the power system.
