EVN accelerates digital transformation

 - Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the country’s largest power company, plans to accelerate its digital transformation during the 2021-2025 period.

EVN has strengthened technology application in all of its activities

Synchronous implementation

EVN Board Chair Duong Quang Thanh said the group has established a steering committee to guide implementation of the so-called fourth industrial revolution in all company operations from power generation, transmission and distribution to governance and customer service.

So far, the group has successfully implemented reliability centered maintenance (RCM) in the Ialy Hydropower Plant and expanded its application to other hydropower plants, made good use of artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize the fuel supply process in the Duyen Hai Thermal Power Company, and launched a centralized operation management center (Smart OCC) at the Da Nhim-Ham Thuan-Da Mi and Dong Nai 3-Dong Nai 4 hydropower plant clusters.

EVN has completed 61 of 63 centers for remote control of transformer stations and converted 670 of 844 transformer stations into unmanned facilities. The group also put into operation the first digital transformer station on the 110kV circuit in Bac Ninh Province in January 2020 and the first one on the 220kV circuit in Hai Phong City in December 2020. In addition, member units have deployed drones to examine equipment and handle problems on transmission lines without cutting off the power.

EVN now provides all online electricity services on the National Public Service Portal and electronic invoices nationwide. In addition, the National Load Dispatch Center has applied big data and AI in load forecast for the national power system and brought the system of automatic generation control (AGC) into real-time operation.

Ensuring sufficient power supply

During the 2021-2025 period, EVN will apply digital and information technologies, especially core technologies, such as Internet of Things (IoT), big data, AI, blockchain, and cloud computing in order to enhance digital transformation in all areas from corporate governance, business and customer service to improved trade and production activities.

EVN will replicate successful models and continue to conduct research on the development of digital power plants and the application of the building information model (BIM) and 3D technology in construction and management of electricity works. In addition, the group will develop AI applications in image analysis, build high-speed private telecommunications infrastructure and centralized master data management (MDM) systems, and improve the operation of the power system and the quality of customer service.

EVN’s digital transformation aims to improve labor productivity and investment efficiency in order to meet demand of the country’s socioeconomic development, as well as implement the state’s policy on digital transformation.

To ensure sufficient power supply in the 2021-2025 period, EVN projects annual power load growth according to two scenarios - 8.6 percent and 9.4 percent.
