In Hanoi, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) just had a meeting with Mr. Koshio Katsuhiko - Chairman of Toyo Joint Stock Company (Japan) to discuss possibilities of energy cooperation between the two sides. Specifically, cooperation in producing biomass pellets, combination with coal fuel to generate electricity and provide technical service and fuel for power plants in Vietnam.

On the afternoon of July 20, 2023, at the headquarters of Viet nam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), The Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and Minister of Lao Energy and Mines Phosay Sayasone signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation in the coal field. This is an important event, marking a new milestone in the energy cooperation relationship between the two countries.

According to a report of Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin), In the first 6 months of 2023, Vinacomin provided over 21.16 million tons of coal for power production, reaching 55% of the plan, up 16% (equivalent to an increase of 3 million tons over the same period in 2022). Vinacomin has been highly appreciated by the Prime Minister in managing production, increasing coal for thermal power plants, and contributing to ensuring electricity supply during peak heat waves.

On June 28 in Hanoi, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin) held a Conference for the Employees in 2023.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the northern province of Quang Ninh on June 11 to inspect the production and supply of electricity at the Mong Duong Thermal Power Company, Quang Ninh Thermal Power JSC, as well as coal mining and supply for thermal power plants at Ha Tu Coal JSC.

On May 9, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan, General Director and Mission of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and worked with Vinacomin leaders in Hanoi and Coal Northeast Corporation (CNC) in Quang Ninh, on coal supply for power generation, especially in the peak hot months of 2023.

The remaining coal resources of Vietnam are forecasted to be quite large, but not large explorative reserves, especially since the mining conditions are increasingly difficult, increasing the costs, which makes it difficult to compete with imported coal sources. As there is no State clear mechanism and policy for coal import, that leads to difficulties for enterprises to deploy coal import, as well as invest in coal mining abroad.

On March 3, 2023, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Minister Nguyen Hong Dien chaired a meeting with the leaders of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), and Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (TKV), Power Generation 1, Power Generation 2, Power Generation- 3 Joint Stock Company, TKV Power Company, PVN Power Company, Northeast Coal Corporation; Ninh Binh Fertilizer Single Company Limited, Ha Bac Fertilizer and Chemical Joint Stock company and a number of the coal-fired thermal power plants on the coal supply and coal import for electricity and nitrogen fertilizer production.

The electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) exchanged the situation of coal supply in 2022, and the plans for the coal supply for power generation in 2023.

In difficult conditions, in the first 9 months of 2022, the production and business of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) expect to achieve good results with a high turnover, equal to 93% of the year plan. The turnover of TKV in the whole of 2022 expects to reach a record level forever as VND 168,000 billion.

The General Director of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) Dang Thanh Hai chaired a meeting with Hon Gai Coal Recruitment Company for solving the difficulties and promoting to implement a number of coal recruitment projects.

On the morning of September 8, at Deo Nai Coal Joint Stock Company, General Director of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) Dang Thanh Hai chaired a meeting with the Vinacomin opencast coal mining units.

In the first 6 months of 2022, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has exceeded the set-out plan on coal production and sale for ensuring not to break the coal supply chain for power generation and economic development and to contribute to the national energy security guarantee.
