Previously, the project was successfully energized on September 30, 2025, eight months ahead of the schedule approved by the Prime Minister.
During more than six months of construction, the project faced multiple challenges, including rugged mountainous terrain, harsh weather, complex geology, extensive site clearance, and tight timelines. However, thanks to the strong leadership of the Government and relevant ministries, and the concerted efforts of EVN, Power Project Management Board No.1, contractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers, the project was implemented synchronously, efficiently, and with high determination under the working spirit of “on-site command, round-the-clock shifts, overcoming sun and rain.”
Thousands of engineers and workers worked day and night, through holidays and Tet, completing impressive construction volumes: nearly 1.8 million m³ of earth and rock, 110,000 m³ of concrete, 55,000 tons of steel towers, and more than 6,000 km of conductors, ground wires, and optical cables.
The project has a total length of 229.5 km with 468 tower foundations, passing through two provinces – Lao Cai and Phu Tho, with a total investment of over VND 7.41 trillion, financed by 80% loans from Vietcombank and 20% counterpart funding from EVN. In parallel, the Lao Cai 500 kV substation (Phase 2), with a total investment of more than VND 1.56 trillion, was also completed to ensure synchronized and efficient operation.
Once in operation, the 500 kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line will be capable of transmitting approximately 3,000 MW from hydropower plants in the Northwest and neighboring provinces to the national grid, thereby enhancing regional interconnection, ensuring stable and safe system operation, reducing transmission losses, and improving EVN’s overall operational efficiency./.
