According to information from the Office Of MoIT, Minister Tran Tuan Anh has just had a meeting with the leaders of Long An province on converting fuel from import coal to LNG for Long An 1&2 TPPs.
At the meeting, Mr. Le Minh Duc the Director of Department of Industry and Trade of Long An Province said: The Long An 1 & 2 TPPs (in Can Duoc and Can Giuoc Districts) using import coal, were approved by the Prime Minister in PDP VII (adjusted).
However, these projects have not been implemented so far due to meeting with difficulties by no consent from the people and local authorities on environmental impacts, ash and slag handling, In this situation, last year, the Long An Provincial People's Committee (PPC) asked the Government to allow converting fuel for Long An 1&2 TPPs and in November of 2019 Long An PPC sent an official document to Prime Minister and MoIT about this issue.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Van Can - Chairman of Long An PPC added: The LNG Long An 1 & 2 TPPs invested by VinaCapital Group Ltd in cooperation with the other co-investors will be implemented very much faster (about 30 – 36 months for a TPP) than a coal fired TPP.
Therefore, Long An PPC would like to ask MoIT to consider, appraise and submit to the Prime Minister for approving documents on converting the technology, fuel, capacity and operational progress schedule of these projects.
For the Long An 1 TPP, Minister Tran Tuan Anh asked the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy to actively work with the local leaders and relevant sides to continue reviewing the financial capacity of the investors, technology and efficiency of the project before reporting to the Prime Minister.
For the Long An 2 TPP, in principle, if the Prime Minister has agreed with the adjustment content in the planning, MoIT will inherit in the overall PDP VIII.
