Proposal to supplement the Long An II Thermal Power Plant to Power Planning VII

Long An II Thermal Power Plant (TPP) is a project proposed by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Long An Vinakobalt Ltd Company for investment by BOT form.
Long An II TPP is expected to be developed on a 133 ha area in Phuoc Vinh Dong commune, Can Giuoc district, Long An province. The plant will use import coal from Australia or Indonesia with a demand of 3.5-4.5 million tons per year, estimated generation cost of UScent 7.53 per kWh and overall investment level of USD 3.17 billion. The plant is expected to be put into operation in 2022-2023 period.
According to the Power Planning VII, after 2020, in Can Duoc district, Long An province will be a coal fired thermal power plant (2x600MW) named Long An TPP. Therefore, on this occasion MoIT proposes to establish a location planning for Long An Power Center to concentrate both Long An TPPs into a thermal power center for guaranteeing investment effect, making use of common infrastructure and power transmission grid system.
