Starting up Vung Ang 3 BOT Thermal Power Project

Mr.Le Tuan Phong, Deputy Director General of General Directorate of Energy and Representative of Samsung C & T Company sign a MoU.

Sam Sung C & T company has been assigned by the Vietnamese Government as Investor of Vung Ang 3  BOT Thermal Power Project. The project is sited in Vung Ang Economic Zone, Ha Tinh province. This is the first thermal power project in Vietnam invested by Sam Sung Company.

The project consists of two units with a 1200 MW total capacity (2x600 MW) using imported coal. The first Unit 1 of the project is expected to commercial  operation by 2022.

Mr. Le Tuan Phong, Deputy Director General of GDE said, It is a large power project, with a high investment capital, so to successfully implement  the project it need the effort of concerning ministries and local authorities, especially the Investor. General Directorate of Energy commits to create favorable conditions for investor to carry out the project.

Mr. Vo Kim Cu, Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial People’s Committee said, this project is the result of a investment stimulating trip of Ha Tinh Provincial Administration to Korea one year ago. Ha Tinh province will maximally support all the necessary conditions on infrastructure, land clearance, water supply… and ensure security and safety for investor as well as contractors in process of project implementation.

Representative of Investor, Mr. Joon Suk Choi, Deputy Director General of Samsung C & T Company highly appreciated the cooperation and active support of  Vietnamese Government, relevant ministries and agencies, especially the GDE and Ha Tinh province which created the favorable conditions for Samsung C & T in surveying, researching works and approving the Investment Project for the Vung Ang 3 Thermal Power Plant.
