Vinacomin positively responds to the Buy Vietnamese Goods campaign

 - Over the past five years of implementation of the Buy Vietnamese Goods campaign, the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) has boosted production of competitive quality products along with enhanced use of domestic products comparable to imported alternatives in terms of quality and price.

The coal industry requires a lot of costly and difficult to maintain mechanical products which were previously imported.

Since joining the Buy Vietnamese Goods campaign, Vinacomin has focused on scientific and technological research, development and application in production process to create more low-cost high-quality products highly competitive with imported alternatives to meet consumer needs. “Vinacomin has set up joint venture companies with several domestic partners in order to expand mechanical production and distribution channels. It has so far produced many mechanical products capable of substituting imported alternatives such as VMC E500-1 excavator and mobile hydraulic frame GK1600/1.6/2.4HT,” said Vinacomin Party Committee Deputy Permanent Secretary Nguyen Dinh Duc.

According to Vinacomin Planning Chief Nguyen Hoang Trung, Vinacomin has also committed to using products supplied by domestic manufacturers based on bilateral and multilateral contracts such the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), Vietnam Steel Corporation (VNSteel), Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), and Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Many new domestic products have been put into use over the past five years of implementation of the Buy Vietnamese Goods campaign. For example, Vinacomin used to import about 80,000 tonnes of steel pit props of various kinds for coal production annually; however, since 2009, it has adopted An Khanh and Thai Nguyen alternatives which have met its requirements. It is expected that most Vinacomin affiliates will use Thai Nguyen steel pit props instead of imported alternatives.
Previously, Vinacomin also imported rubber tire products. However, it is now buying domestic alternatives manufactured by Vinachem affiliates such as Da Nang and Sao Vang rubber companies, with an annual consumption rate of about 100,000 medium truck tires.

Vinacomin has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Vinatex to use the latter’s cloth materials for protective clothing production and used contracted coal cargo insurance services provided by PetroVietnam Insurance JSC (PVI) and coal transportation services provided by PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVTrans).

In the coming time, Vinacomin will further promote scientific and technological research, development and application in design and production to reduce costs while improving quality, meeting consumer needs; focus on branding and customer services in order to consolidate its position in the domestic market; and enhance the use of domestically produced products according to its made commitments. These solutions are expected to help improve Vinacomin’s sales and competitiveness in the market.
